Ujjain has been the center of Shaivism since ages. In Ujjain in the same premise of Mahakaleshwar Shiva temple there is Nagchndreshwara temple known for its uniqueness. It is believed that king of Nagas Takshak lives here. According Shaiva story king of Nagas Takshak did intense tapa for thousand year to please lord Shiva. Shiva was pleased and gave him the blessing of being immortal and stay near Him. It is said to be the only statue in the world where Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha are sited on 10 headed Takshak Naga! Temple opens only on Nagpanchmi day every year. On Nagapanchami day Shiva gives darshan to his devotees at this temple only. People of Ujjain believe that praying here removes curse of Nagas!

Idol looks Tantrik in appearance. Shiva is holding his consort Parvathi with one hand and Parvati is offering him drink. Idol is said to be brought from Nepal.
