Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotisha, is an ancient Hindu system of astrology that is based on the Vedas, the oldest sacred text of Hinduism. It is based on the belief that the positions of the stars and planets at the time of a person’s birth influence their life. Vedic astrology is used to understand personality, predict the future, and aid decision-making.

Vedic Jyotish evolved from Vedanga Jyotisha which is one of the earliest texts about astronomy within the Vedas. Early jyotiṣa is concerned with the preparation of a calendar to determine dates for sacrificial rituals which later evolved and science of astrology.
