Diana, Princess of Wales (born Diana Frances Spencer; 1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997), was a member of the British royal family. She was the first wife of Charles III and mother of Princes William and Harry. Her activism and glamour made her an international icon, and earned her enduring popularity.
Diana was as the fourth of five children of John Spencer Viscount Althorp , and Frances Spencer, Viscountess Althorp. The Spencer family had been closely allied with the British royal family for several generations.

Diana was born into British nobility, and grew up close to the royal family on their Sandringham estate. In 1981, while working as a nursery teacher’s assistant, she became engaged to Charles, the eldest son of Elizabeth II. Their wedding took place at St Paul’s Cathedral in July 1981 and made her Princess of Wales. The couple had two sons, William and Harry, who were then respectively second and third in the line of succession to the British throne. Prince William was born on 21 June 1982, followed by Prince Henry on 15 September 1984.

Diana’s marriage to Charles suffered due to their incompatibility and extramarital affairs. After Harry’s birth, Diana knew that Charles was dating Camilla. She felt rejected and betrayed and was tormented, in despair. She looked for help from mediums and astrologers. She consulted astrologer Penny Thornton and medium Betty Falko, these astrologers corrected her birth chart and fixed her birth time 7:45 PM. Diana later began a series of affairs which were carried out with the utmost secrecy. According to James Hewitt in his autobiography, released in 1994, he and Diana started their affair in 1986 and continued for five years. He was originally hired as her riding coach and they spent a great deal of time at Windsor Great Parks and family’s country home in Highgrove. He claims to have given Diana a lot emotionally, stating the affair with him increased her confidence. The marital difficulties of Diana and Charles were widely publicized, and the couple divorced in 1996. She was given a settlement of more than $26 million and $600,000 a year for her private staff and expenses. She kept the flat in Kensington Palace.
