Bharatbhushan Gupta, better known as Bharat Bhushan (14 June 1920 – 27 January 1992) was born in Meerut, and brought up in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He was Indian actor in Hindi language films, scriptwriter and producer. He struggled for over a decade to make a mark in Hindi movies till Baiju Bawra (1952), which gave him instant stardom and legendary status. He is best remembered for playing Baiju Bawra. His pairing with Madhubala proved to be very popular as they worked together in successful films like Gateway of India (1957), Phagun (1958) and Barsaat Ki Raat (1960). He recieved film fare for Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in 1955. His Phagun film song ‘ek pardeshi mera dil le gya’ is very popular and an all time hit song.

He had affair with Meena Kumari. In his last days, when he stopped getting movies, he had to work as a watchman in a movie studio. However, his daughter Aparajita Bhushan, famous for playing Mandodari in Ramayan serial refutes it. In a Interview she had shared the story of his fall which was published in several newspapers. His Jupiter dasha also does not signify poverty as such though it was not very good from monetary point of view. He did some small roles on TV and in small budget movies to get money. Bhushan was an avid reader and had a fine collection of books, which he had to sell off like his cars and bungalows in bad times. He breathed his last in 27 January 1992 in a rented flat.
