Deepika Padukone ( born 5 January 1986) is one of the highest-paid actresses in India. She was born on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a former professional badminton player and her mother, Ujjala, is a travel agen Deepika won three Filmfare Awards. She features in listings of the nation’s most popular personalities; Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018 and awarded her the TIME100 Impact Award in 2022.
She studied up to 10th grade and then started modelling In 2004. Early in her career, Padukone gained recognition with a television commercial for the soap Liril and modelled for various other brands and products. In 2005, she made her runway debut at the Lakme Fashion Week for designer Suneet Varma and won Model of the Year at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards.Padukone’s fame increased when she became Kingfisher Calendar girl in 2006. She made debut with kannad film Aishwarya (2006) and Om Shani Om in (2007). It was a breakthrough moment, Om Shanti Om was a huge success. Next Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). In 2009 her Chandni Chowk to China, in which she portrayed dual roles of Indian-Chinese twin sister , was a failure but in the same year Love Aaj Kal proved to be the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2009. Her Race-2, Girl Next door, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani were successful films, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela were great hit and won her several awards, including the Screen Award for Best Actress for both films and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the latter. Controversy : In 2020, Padukone attended a protest for students who were brutalised during the 2020 JNU Attack due to their protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party criticized her decision and asked people to boycott her film Chhapaak. Later online Hindutva and Godi media launched a malicious campaign against her in drug case. Deepika Padukone was summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the drugs use case arising from Sushant Singh Rajput’s death . She was forced to sit in police thana of NCB for almost 8-9 hours and hounded by Godi media on roads. Her private whatsapp chat was made public and Godi media tried to criminalize her in drug case calling her “charasi” and showed a fake ‘chat’ calling it ‘maal chat’.
