Henry Valentine Miller (December 26, 1891 – June 7, 1980) was an American novelist, short story writer and essayist. He suffered on economic front till the age of 50, he was a late bloomer in the sense that he became famous novelist vary late. Miller’s state of being changed only after he met Anaïs Nin in Paris. She not only arranged money for his survival but also arranged money for the publication of his first book ‘Tropic of Cancer’. America accepted him in late 70s after a court trial in 64 when court gave verdict that Miller’s Tropic of Cancer published by Grove Press was a work of literature.

He broke with existing literary forms and developed a new type of semi-autobiographical novel that blended character study, social criticism, philosophical reflection, stream of consciousness, explicit language, sex, surrealistfree association, and mysticism. His most characteristic works of this kind are Tropic of CancerBlack SpringTropic of Capricorn, and the trilogy The Rosy Crucifixion, which are based on his experiences in New York and Paris (all of which were banned in the United States until 1961). He also wrote travel memoirs and literary criticism, and painted watercolors.

He had extreme sexuality, had several affairs and married to 5 women in his life mostly were more than 30 years younger than him. His work is largely pornographic in character.
