Heinrich Luitpold Himmler (7 October 1900 – 23 May 1945) was a leading member of the Nazi Party of Germany, and one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany, primarily known for being a main architect of the Holocaust. He ordered the deaths of millions, beginning with the “blood purge” on 30 June 1934 and ending with the systematic murder of millions of Jews within the Nazi concentration camps.
Himmler joined the Nazi Party in 1923 and the SS in 1925. He was appointed Reichsführer-SS by Adolf Hitler in 1929. Himmler developed the SS from a 290-man battalion into a million-strong paramilitary group. In April 1934, he became assistant chief of the secret police, and by 1936 had control of all German police operations (Secret State Police, Criminal police also Waffen-SS, the military branch of the SS). He had deep interest in Occultism which he used for development of racial policy of Nazi Germany. He used religious symbols in the same way Hindutva uses it to communalize the society. He was the principal overseer of Nazi Germany’s genocidal programs, forming the Einsatzgruppen and administering extermination camps. In this capacity, Himmler directed the killing of some six million Jews, between 200,000 and 500,000 Romani people, and other victims. He was also a rapist believed to had raped hundreds of Jews.
Himmler had had some psychosomatic illnesses in the final months of the war, but thought he would succeed Hitler. Hitler had him arrested. Himmler escaped, but was captured by the Allies. He died on 23 May 1945 after biting cyanide pill. full bio at wiki
